Moving up is always good! We achieve our goals when we escalate. When we go from a simple task to a more complex one. And language is no different!
From B1 to B2
We’ve raised the level of conversation! This is the turning point between B1 and B2 levels. To get from B1 to B2 you need to understand more complex conversations, and know how to communicate more accurately.
In this article, we will see how to get there! How to stop being a B1 and move up in proficiency level.
To reach level B1, it takes about 350-400 hours of study, to reach level B2, 500-600 hours. The difference is in the people and everyone has their own time.
So, as in the previous article, it is worth noting: you need to exercise! Hours of study bring results and there is no magic that makes you migrate from one stage to another if you don’t dedicate yourself to it.
Let’s break it down into areas so you can understand better how to move up from B1 to B2 level:
|Listening||understand the main points||understand extended speech and lectures|
|Reading||comprehend the description of events, feelings, and wishes in personal letters||comprehend contemporary literary prose|
|enter unprepared into conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest, or pertinent to everyday life||take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts|
|connect phrases in a simple way in order to describe experiences and events||explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options|
|Writing||write simple connected text on topics that are familiar||write clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects|
Moving Up From B1 to B2!
The study of grammar seems to be the great divider between levels B1 and B2. This is because, to understand more complex texts, it is necessary to know the language better.
In addition to grammar, make the dictionary your best friend and expand your vocabulary!
- Choose a book of literature and read to the end.
- Watch movies without subtitles every now and then.
- Have a section in your personal journal to reflect on the new language.
Tutor as a Coach
Someone to talk to and to guide! In addition to talking to you in another language, the tutor will guide your grammar.
To go from B1 to B2, it is imperative to know the language and know how to express yourself in a more complex way. Express your opinions and how to use different languages in different contexts.
The language spoken at the supermarket is different from that spoken at the University. And at level B2 you will already be able to communicate in both contexts.
